Hearing From God Wisdom and Warnings

admin | February 9, 2009

Lesson from Dojo 2/2/09.

Prophetic Ministry is one of the most beautiful things we can be a part of.  However, if we are not careful there are dangers in prophetic ministry. Hear are some pieces of wisdom that are good to live by.

Warning:  Don’t prophesy about dating and/or marriage.  Specifically related to who.
Wisdom:  Instead, ask for wisdom about what to do next.
James 1:5-8
Matthew 6:33-34

Warning:  Do not give a negative prophetic word.
Wisdom:  Correcting words should only be delivered to someone with whom you have a close, appropriate relationship with.  If you are sure it was God, and you do not have the relationship there, shut up, tell no one about it and pray for the person.

Warning:  Don’t be fake when praying giving a prophetic word.  Don’t do something because you saw someone else do it.
Wisdom:  Stop trying to be the next who’s who, only try to be the next you.
Acts 19:13-16

Warning:  Don’t get caught believing you have the big picture
Wisdom:  Almost always, in any situation, we never have the big picture
1 Cor. 13:9

Warning:  God will not always speak the same way.
Wisdom:  God speaks in so many different ways.  Keep your mind open.  Don’t put him in a box

Warning:  Don’t prophecy beyond your faith.  Don’t make stuff up.
Wisdom:  However, do stretch yourself.

Warning:  Don’t try to control people with prophetic words or reputation.
Manipulation is bad.  Don’t do it.
Wisdom:  Repeat after me, “I am not the Holy Spirit.”
Let the Holy Spirit convict, inspire and motivate change in others.  If he calls on you, just be the mouthpiece.

Warning:  Don’t allow what you feel/hear grow bigger than the Bible’s role in your life.
Wisdom:  Honor the written word
2 Tim. 3:16

Warning:  Don’t let what you feel/hear put you above your pastor and authorites.
Wisdom:  Listen, follow, submit to your pastor.  You will go futher faster.
Hebrews 13:17

Warning:  Don’t accept anything and everything you receive.
Wisdom:  Follow the presence of God
Learn and ASK for discernment
God often leads by His presence or the absence of it.
Philippians 4:7
It feels good ≠ must be from God

Warning:  Don’t seek to establish yourself or your authority with your gifting.
Wisdom:  Become the last, the servant of all
Mark 9:33-35

Warning:  You can turn people off if you aren’t careful.
Wisdom:  Take on the character of Jesus.  Galatians 5:22-23
Smile when you prophecy.
Get on their level… literally.
Ask permission to lay hands on someone.

Warning:  Prophecy only what God shows you and nothing else.
Wisdom:  Be careful.  You could really hurt someone with false prophecy.

Warning:  Your “discernment” is sometimes wounds and fear.
Wisdom:  Know yourself.  Seek healing for old wounds and issues.

Warning:  Don’t give a prophetic word with someone when you are angry.
Wisdom:  You are human and have the humility to know when you aren’t in a good place.  Again, you could really hurt someone by misrepresenting God.

Warning:  Don’t pray a prophetic word; speak it.
Wisdom:  It is better to be direct and speak a word to someone.  Otherwise it sometimes gets garbled up.  Be direct and bold.

Someone is praying for me…

admin | December 12, 2008

I have learned about myself that I have little to do with whenever I am beginning to really take flight with Jesus.  As soon as I begin to think I am doing good, I drift away from intimacy with Him again.  It’s a vicious cycle.

So right now I am doing really good.  My heart is growing softer and softer to Him.  I am loving Him more (what a miracle!  Thank you God!  I love you Jesus!)

I don’t deserve any of the credit for this.

So, I think that someone must be praying for me and doing a great job at it.  If thats you and you happen to read this, thank you so much.  I am so grateful for you and your thoughfulness to pray for me.  Please don’t stop.  Thank you!

What Fasting Does and Different Ways to Fast

admin | November 12, 2008

I just read AN AMAZING post on Mike Bickle’s blog about fasting.

However, instead of making the focal point about fasting, his objective is to teach about the Power to Love Jesus.  Fasting is just a means to an end.  And what a beautiful end.

Fasting puts our hearts in position to recieve more power to love Jesus, because we can’t even love Him without help.  When we love Him, it is the Spirit’s work in us.

We can fast five different ways:  Giving, Serving, Praying, Blessing Our Enemies and Fasting Food.

  • We fast our financial strength in giving
  • We fast our time and energy in praying and serving by investing into God and others
  • We fast our words and reputation in blessing our enemies
  • We fast our physical and emotional strength in giving up food

1st Stanza of O Living Flame of Love by St. John of the Cross

O living flame of love
that tenderly wounds my soul
in its deepest center! Since
now you are not oppressive,
now consummate! if it be your will:
tear through the veil of this sweet encounter!

Impossible is Nothing

admin | June 2, 2008

Impossible is Nothing. Who knew that Adidas could hold so much truth in their advertising campaign.

I had an experience yesterday that reminded me of this truth. Myself and a few of my friends prayed about three months ago for something very specific and now it has come to pass.

Doesn’t sound very exciting does it? We prayed and then it happened.

However, I remember how audacious I felt asking God to move that way. I was trembling on the inside.

“How could I honestly believe that this could happen?”

“I can’t even vision this coming to pass.”

“Am I wasting my time?”

It was outrageous to ask because it was impossible.

But again God has showed the truth. “Big” is outside the realm of God. He is beyond size. Beyond difficulty. Outside of our understanding of a 3 dimensional world where mountains are too big to move. Mountains are neither big nor small to God. Truth = God is over ALL.

No problem is outside of God’s umbrella of sovereignty.
No issue is too big because big is only a condition of our dimension.  There is no big.
No brokenness is beyond healing.  Not one wound.

God give us faith in the true reality that impossible is nothing to Your people!

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Jesus – Matthew 17:20

TURN THE TIDE FAST

admin | June 1, 2008

Turn The Tide

This monday will be the first TURN THE TIDE FAST! What is it? Every first monday of the month we will be fasting and praying that God would shift the negative trend of the United Methodist Church in the state of Florida loosing members year after year. If we fast and pray, we can “turn the tide” and God can bring healing into our church. Imagine, what if God not only stopped the decline of the church but He breathed on it and made it grow! Check back later today for more information about fasting and TURN THE TIDE!

Fasting Purifies Prayer

admin | February 12, 2008

Last semester God taught me an amazing lesson on fasting that I wanted to post.  So here it is:

Fasting makes you physically weak.
Your physical weakness (in fasting) works it’s way inside to bring spiritual weakness.
Spiritual weakness is good because it makes you realize your need for God.
As you realize your true weakness and your need for God your faith increases.
And increased faith means more powerful prayer.
And prayer rid of all human strength is perfected prayer.

Therefore, fasting purifies your prayer.

God, let us be a people who are not like Esua, who trade our inheritance for food.  But let us be a people who would deny our stomaches and the world so that we might burn for you.
