admin | February 9, 2009Lesson from Dojo 2/2/09.
Prophetic Ministry is one of the most beautiful things we can be a part of. However, if we are not careful there are dangers in prophetic ministry. Hear are some pieces of wisdom that are good to live by.
Warning: Don’t prophesy about dating and/or marriage. Specifically related to who.
Wisdom: Instead, ask for wisdom about what to do next.
James 1:5-8
Matthew 6:33-34
Warning: Do not give a negative prophetic word.
Wisdom: Correcting words should only be delivered to someone with whom you have a close, appropriate relationship with. If you are sure it was God, and you do not have the relationship there, shut up, tell no one about it and pray for the person.
Warning: Don’t be fake when praying giving a prophetic word. Don’t do something because you saw someone else do it.
Wisdom: Stop trying to be the next who’s who, only try to be the next you.
Acts 19:13-16
Warning: Don’t get caught believing you have the big picture
Wisdom: Almost always, in any situation, we never have the big picture
1 Cor. 13:9
Warning: God will not always speak the same way.
Wisdom: God speaks in so many different ways. Keep your mind open. Don’t put him in a box
Warning: Don’t prophecy beyond your faith. Don’t make stuff up.
Wisdom: However, do stretch yourself.
Warning: Don’t try to control people with prophetic words or reputation.
Manipulation is bad. Don’t do it.
Wisdom: Repeat after me, “I am not the Holy Spirit.”
Let the Holy Spirit convict, inspire and motivate change in others. If he calls on you, just be the mouthpiece.
Warning: Don’t allow what you feel/hear grow bigger than the Bible’s role in your life.
Wisdom: Honor the written word
2 Tim. 3:16
Warning: Don’t let what you feel/hear put you above your pastor and authorites.
Wisdom: Listen, follow, submit to your pastor. You will go futher faster.
Hebrews 13:17
Warning: Don’t accept anything and everything you receive.
Wisdom: Follow the presence of God
Learn and ASK for discernment
God often leads by His presence or the absence of it.
Philippians 4:7
It feels good ≠ must be from God
Warning: Don’t seek to establish yourself or your authority with your gifting.
Wisdom: Become the last, the servant of all
Mark 9:33-35
Warning: You can turn people off if you aren’t careful.
Wisdom: Take on the character of Jesus. Galatians 5:22-23
Smile when you prophecy.
Get on their level… literally.
Ask permission to lay hands on someone.
Warning: Prophecy only what God shows you and nothing else.
Wisdom: Be careful. You could really hurt someone with false prophecy.
Warning: Your “discernment” is sometimes wounds and fear.
Wisdom: Know yourself. Seek healing for old wounds and issues.
Warning: Don’t give a prophetic word with someone when you are angry.
Wisdom: You are human and have the humility to know when you aren’t in a good place. Again, you could really hurt someone by misrepresenting God.
Warning: Don’t pray a prophetic word; speak it.
Wisdom: It is better to be direct and speak a word to someone. Otherwise it sometimes gets garbled up. Be direct and bold.
