Recommended Books
The Final Quest by Rick Joyner
This is a great book. When I first read it, it only took me 3 days because I couldn’t put it down. It is like a modern day Pilgrim’s Progress. It is a vision about living out the Christian journey that God gave to the author, Rick Joyner. Several aspects of this book are great but the part that is the richest is towards the end of the book, where Rick Joyner is in Heaven talking with Christians who have already passed on. Great wisdom is found in those pages. Love it!
The Next Generation Leader by Andy Stanley
I have actually read this book twice. I read it three years ago, because my youth pastor loves Andy Stanley and recommended this book to me. Next, Vance had the interns study it two years ago to develop us as leaders. This book is full of leadership principals and I would recommend this book as part of anyone’s growing as a leader. Consider it Leadership 101. (Note: The cover has changed. This cover is the one I read. It may look different but it is still the same great teaching!)
The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell
One of my mentors at Wesley, Neal McCullohs, had me read this book. Awesome, awesome leadership principals such as the Law of Magnetism and the Law of Navigation, etc. These are key truths in leadership that have helped form me at the core as a leader. The book provides great vision into WHO you are as a leader, and not just what you do.

Red Moon Rising by Pete Creig and Dave Roberts
This is an incredible book on prayer and the growing 24-7 prayer movement growing in the world. There are several different streams of Christianity beginning to move in this (That’s when you know God is on the move!). This is the book that started the vision for the prayer chapel as it is today. The best part of the book is a section called “The Vision.” It is framed in the Small Chapel. Yeah, we think it is that important. Read it!
i am not but i know I AM by Louie Giglio
Louie Giglio is the man behind the Passion Worship movement. That is Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Matt Redman and Charlie Hall. Incredible worshipers and worship leaders. Anyway, Louie gets just how BIG God really is, and how small we really are. This book is not directly about it, but the fruit of it is humility before God. After reading it, you have a reverence for the God of all the galaxies and of the whole universe, and yet somehow He is in love with me, little human spec of dust Trevor. Makes your heart gasp in awe of The One. Read it!
My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers
There is a reason this book is the best selling devotional of all time. It was given to me as a gift for my high school graduation. I judged it by its cover and thought it was going to be lame. Oh how I was wrong! This little book will challenge you and call you out on your walk with God everyday. These messages by Mr. Chambers will force you to choose to go to the deeper places of God. This will make you strong in Jesus and develop a greater spiritual maturity in you. You will like it, I promise.
The Gutter by Craig Gross
This book is hands down the best book I have read on Evangelism. Craig Gross is already one of my heroes for founding XXXChurch.com and the CRAZY things they do to reach the lost (if you have never heard of XXX Church, don’t be alarmed, they are a Christian, Anti-Porn ministry that works to get people free of pornography and sexual sin AS WELL AS rescue people out of the porn industry.) This guy gets reaching people the radical way that Jesus did. This book has had a significant impact on me.
Visioneering by Andy Stanley
This is great book for those who are newly appointed into a leadership position. It really helps you focus on what God has put on your heart for those you lead and for the mission He has for you to accomplish. I picked this book up last summer and I read it preparing to be staff coordinator this year. It really helped me work out the vision the Lord put in my heart, and make that a reality with those where are following me. Great read. Andy Stanley is a great teacher.
The God Chasers by Tommy Tenney
This book lit a fire under my butt when I read it. This book will make you hot after God. I know someone who read the first chapter of this book and began to weep because the Holy Spirit was at such work in them. Absolutely filled with passion and fire for the only One who is worth it. You should read it and become a God Chaser!
The Imitation of Christ by Thomas à Kempis
I began to read this book last fall and it was wonderfully challenging. This is a great classic, written 500 years old. You know that something has the truth in it if it survives that long of a time. Definately check this out. (Note: You can purchase the book for your own library or you can click here to download it for FREE!)
The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence
This book was written by a monk from the 17th Century. It has greatly helped me cultivate a hunger for the Presence of the God and helped with small, practical things to dwell with Him more. If you know anything about me, you would know that I am a junkie for the Presence of God. I am addicted to the Holy Spirit. This book helped me get that way.
Why Revival Tarries by Leonard Ravenhill
This book shook me. Leonard Ravenhill was a man born in 1904 who was fearless and radical. He was one of Britain’s greatest evangelists of the 20th century. This guy is fierce. I read this as a senior in high school, when an intern named Timmy gave this book to me to read. I would never be the same after it. I preached my last summer in youth group on the last chapter in this book “Known in Hell.” This is full of fire and conviction. Read it!
Wild at Heart by John Eldredge
Manly! This book unlocks a man from the inside! I felt like I was set free into manhood from reading this. I now better understand how God wired me and why I have certain desires. This book is about redeeming all that is good in men and becoming who you were born to be. For women, this is also good to help you understand what goes on inside of men. Good stuff. He also quotes The Final Quest in it, which is another book on my list!
